Zest Quest Asia was launched in 2013 to promote the cuisines of Asia to UK resident catering students as an outlet for their culinary skills and a platform for a potential career in Asian cookery. Now on its fifth year, it is a truly 21st century competition, with all things Asian having grown in prominence around the world.
Launched by restaurateurs Cyrus and Pervin Todiwala in association with the Master Chefs of Great Britain, Zest Quest Asia was initially a response to immigration laws threatening to squeeze the diminishing pool of talent in authentic Asian cookery in Britain.
The Competition has attracted big-hitting sponsorship and support from industry. The first winners, Westminster Kingsway College, flew out to India for a nine-day culinary tour, awarded during a Gala Awards Dinner at the Hilton London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 after a tough cook-off. 2015 saw Farnborough College of Technology crowned winners and they jetted off on a culinary study tour of Sri Lanka filled with the joys of discovery. Then in 2016 Milton Keynes College enjoyed an amazing study experience in and around Bangkok. 2017 has seen winners, University College Birmingham, embark on an incredible study tour of Japan, courtesy of headline sponsors Panasonic, and hosted by Hilton Tokyo.
